Your innovations
start with us.®

We are not a law firm that learned about technology. We are engineers and attorneys who turn your creations into winning intellectual property assets.

In Mexico, approximately 15,000 patent applications are filed each year. 94% come from foreign applicants, already drafted by a firm in their country of origin. Only 6% come from Mexican applicants — and of those, 80% are filed without professional advice, risking their investment. Of the remaining 20% — those that do have professional drafting — our firm handles half.

Without a doubt, we are a Mexican firm specialized in patent structuring and drafting.

Concepto CI

The meaning of our logo

The "i" represents the creator — the inventor, the artist, the entrepreneur. The "C" that wraps around it is the creative environment that drives innovation. The thin arrow symbolizes the initial investment, often small, that every creation requires. The thick arrow represents the significant returns generated by a well-protected innovation. Together they form a virtuous cycle: creation → investment → protection → profit — and this cycle repeats as long as your rights remain in force.

Because every innovation needs a first step: protecting it. We are that first step.

From the moment you have an invention, a trademark, a design or any creation, we are there — we assess its potential, define the strategy, structure it, draft it and protect it. We are not a law firm that learned about technology. We are engineers and attorneys who think like inventors and strategize ahead.

Founded in 2002 in Saltillo — the Athens of Mexico —, Coahuila, Competitividad Intelectual was born with a conviction: intellectual property is not just for lawyers — it is the tool that turns your ideas into real competitive advantage. Our team brings together engineers who understand your technology from its technical roots and attorneys who know how to turn it into solid, enforceable rights.

We understand your invention, structure it, draft it and illustrate it following international best practices — IMPI, USPTO, PCT, EPO — with a clear business approach: we do not seek a certificate to hang on your wall, but rather a winning intellectual property ASSET, designed to enforce your rights in litigation.

We operate with a network of correspondents in over 120 countries, protecting your creations wherever your market demands — from Mexico to the world. Your innovation starts with us because we stand at the very origin of the cycle: where the idea is born, protection is born.

How We Work

We protect your investment by protecting your creation.®

Every project follows a clear four-stage process. No surprises, no fine print.

01

Initial consultation

We meet to listen and understand your invention, trademark or creation. We sign a confidentiality agreement, identify your specific need and evaluate available protection routes.

02

Strategy & plan

We analyze options, jurisdictions, costs and timelines. We present a clear, transparent action plan with alternatives and well-founded recommendations.

03

Execution & filing

We draft the technical-legal documents, prepare applications, respond to official requirements and follow up with IMPI, USPTO and international offices until your rights are secured.

04

Ongoing monitoring

We monitor the market to detect potential infringers, manage renewals and keep your IP portfolio up to date and enforceable over time.
